Zone issues

Hi Folks,

Need some troubleshooting help.

This is a three zone system, and it is operated manually from the controller and has been for years. Zone one is started and it then cycles through zones 1-3.

New problem at start up this spring.

When zone two is supposed to start, it wont, but zone three does (and controller indicates zone two). When zone three is supposed to start, it does (and controller indicates zone 3.)

All three zones can be manually started in the valve box. There have been no wiring changes and connections are clean and tight in the box and the controller.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

It's most likely a wiring problem. It could also be the controller.
Try this, remove the wire from the number 3 terminal at the controller. Now turn on number 2. If number 3 comes on then the wires are mixed up somewhere.
If it doesn't come on then there's a problem with the controller. If it's the controller you could do a factory reset to see if it fixes it. You could move number 2 to 4 to see if that works.
But I'm going with wiring at this point. Both the 2 and 3 wires are hooked up to zone 3 somewhere. Look for splices or bare wires. It could be anywhere. Sometimes it's where the wire exits a wall. Do any digging lately?
