RE: "Flashing 24V" problem - fixed!

I am absolutely amazed! This is an 1$ repair (the cost of the capacitors) and works. My model is an Irritrol Junior Max, 8 zones + master valve, 2003 model, and I bought it in 2005, as I remember. This spring the controller failed to work with 24V error. Now is working again. Marian, thank you!

Hi everybody.
I had the problem with blinking 24V indication too. The fix is quite easy - change all 3 electrolytic capacitors:
C8 - 470M/16V 85 °C -> 470M/16V 105 °C
C7 - 220M/50V 85 °C -> 220M/63V 105 °C
C9 - 100M/16V 85 °C -> 100M/16V 105 °C
All of them are undervalued from temperature point of view and one also from voltage point of view. I have already repaired lot of them (>30pcs) with 100% success. The affected models are mainly Irritrol Junior MAX * and sometimes also Toro DD *. Do not change resistors or zener diodes, it may cause another problems.

RE: "Flashing 24V" problem - fixed!

Additional hint for DIY:
- Be careful when removing old capacitors. The PCB is sensitive for overheating and you may easily break the conductivity of through-holes. It is recommended to let a small gap between capacitor and PCB and solder the capacitor also from PCB top side...
- Since the big resistor near the capacitors is quite hot during operation, bent the components a little bit apart...

RE: Irritrol Junior Max, 6 stations

Absolutely hate it. No clear instructions. Yes, I know I can download a manual. I do not wish to deal with sprinkler company.

Can someone recommend a reliable, no brainier?
Thanks!
Consider a Hunter XC-600 - it looks a bit toy-like (they want you to spend more for a bigger controller :)) but it performs all the essential functions

Flashing 24V

After changing all the 3 Electolyts and and the power resistor it started working fine first but after a while (~1h) the 24V problem came back. I contacted technical support and they suggested to replace the controller because this problem msot probable hit the processor.

The Zener voltage is 9.32V

I gave up with this product and will go for another, more reliable one.

The end

I gave up and today ordered different type/brand of controller.

Slundi thanks, I will give last chance to correct value of mid capacitor (I put 470uF/35 instead of original 220uF/50V and measured there >70V and capacitor was hot). If this does not help, looking for new controller, this does not make sense. PH.

Harmi, I wil try to emasure the Zener voltage over the weekend. Original electolyts (from top to down): C9=100uF,16V,85C; C7(middle one)=220uF,50V,85C ; C8=470uF,16V,85C
