He came out

Rainbird Vavles and he changed out two of them. So far so good, we'll see I guess. It took a about a week and half before the first and second time them came on with no reason. Now we wait...

I doubt it's the solenoid. Do you know what model valve it is?

ok he came out

He says he is pretty sure it's the solenoid. He didn't have an extra on him and will be back out Thursday or Friday to change it out.

I was wrong about it being 2 zones. I never offically checked(cold and by myself). Set-up kind of weird. Zone is split between each side of the back yard. Back right corner and left side part of the fenced section.

I'm pretty sure this will fix it.

Those could definitely all be culprits. I think most of the guys here are suggesting the valves are the problems.

I was even going to ask if he has a remote hooked to his system and his neighbor who has the exact same remote is messing with him. We run into that problem when two service techs are working in the same neighborhood. Sucks when you're changing out a head and your zone fires up!

One other thing to consider is the cold temps you received. Negative temps will freeze up the valves and crack internal parts. Run into a lot up here, ice build up can cause problems and no one ever considers ice as a factor. Ice chunks?

If there was debris in the valves, why would they shut off when he turns the water off and back on. That's the question I've been asking myself for a while.

I even want to go so far as to say the controller's not unplugged and the valves are installed backwards.

What about lose solenoids?

Could be bad diaphragm seat washers. I've seen brand new ones cause a problem. The 2711's for example. Not two at once but if one can do it why not two.

Back to initial post...If you had two faulty valves (debris or bad selenoids) you would have two zones running at the same time. Your pressure would be less than what is recquired to operate both zones adequately which is why you are seeing some of the heads running and some are not. Just not enough pressure to run all the heads at once.

My guess is that some debris got lodged in the valves and is keeping them open. Being that it is a newer system, and if this is the problem, insist that the installer flush the mainline, or it will continue to happen.

If your main controller is unplugged, you have a

Battery Operated Controller somewhere (or another controller) tied into selected zones, my next bet too.

Im interested to know what your service company finds when they come out, let us know.

Hey Mitchgo

"Were trying to help you here... But it doesn't seem that you are either reading our posts or just not comprehending them.

First off, If the system is brand new. Why aren't you having the company / person who installed it come fix it????
You seem to be way over your head on this. I recommend to get a local irrigation company out there- spend the 50-150 or what ever it takes . I bet they could figure it out in less then a hour. I mean you just said " I unplugged the controller, but the zone is still running. Only thing I can think of is that it is some kind of electrical thing in the control box." How does that even make sense!!!?!??

I shut the stsytem off and the water stopped but it just seems weird.

Yes, as fixit said . Where did you shut this off? If water is running to the irrigation system still the apparently you did not shut the water off to the irrigation system.

Now what do you mean that it came on again today? Did you turn the water back on and they came on again right away, or was the water on and they weren't going and randomly just came on?
How long does it stay on for? 30 min? 24 hours?

Here's some scenarios

I'm branching out far here.. But If your water is still physically on, your controller is unplugged. And the zones are randomly coming on for a certain amount of time. Then it's possible the installer used Battery Operated Valves to control those 2 zones.

If your water is phsyically on, and the controller is unpluged and the zones are running 24/7 untill you physcially shut off the water. Then the zone is stuck open or manually turned open.

If your water is phsyically off and the controller is unplugged. THEN NOTHING SHOULD BE RUNNING. If it is this case, then you obviously haven't turned of the water or unplugged the controller..

Get the installer out there, quit fiddling around with it if you don't know what your doing and not willing to learn how to fiddle around with it properly. "

Your an ASSHOLE, get off my forum post. If you don't want to help and just want to show everybody how smart or how much of an ass you can be do it some place else.

The company is coming out.

The system has its own seperate water shut-off from the main.

Timer is NOT plugged in.

Water is turned on and timer is not plugged in. IT IS POSSIBLE to go to the control box and turn on a zone manuely. NOBODY is doing this. It was 1:30 in the morning and two different zones are running at the same time. What I was implying was the there could be a short in the control box(you know the thing in the ground not on the wall) making the zones come on.

I'm just trying to get help on here if you don't want to help or can't stop yourself from acting like a complete ass don't respond.

water running when you pulled the plug means the issue(s) are purely mechanical ~ controller is not the problem
