Start with the zone 1 selonoid. If the outages were caused from lightning it may have caused the selonoid to fry. Freezing temps will also cause ice build up in the valves and cause troubles too. I agree that it definitely sounds valve related.

This is not a control box issue. (Controller)

This sounds like a diaphragm or solenoid not closing properly. (Mechanical Issue)

The valve will have to be located in the yard, and taken apart, cleaned or parts replaced.

And if it comes down to replacing parts, you need to go ahead and replace the entire top end. (Solenoid, Bonnet, Diaphragm, & Seat.

Zone wont shut off when switching to next zone

I just recently moved into a new place that has the Rain Bird ESP- 6 controll box with it. I have used it before at this home and it worked fine. We just recently have had a freeze and some power outages (hour max) and now when I ran my system last night it isn't working properly. The system used to have 4 zones (of which only 3 actually went to sprinklers), no the control box only says there are 3 zones. The main problem that I am having though is that when I went to manually advance from zone 1 to 2 it won't shut off zone 1. This in turn cause very little water to go to zone 2. And when I went to zone 3 - All three zone "tried" to work. I am not sure if this is a control box issue or where the problem is. It seems as though the system doesn't know when to shut off the zone or what zone is supposed to be on? Any ideas? Thanks.
