Did you personally install this system? Was it already in place when you bought the house? And most importantly, why are you closing the supply valve when there is no need to do so?

sprinkler system suck water like a black hole after the main valve is turn back on

I turned off the main valve for the sprinkler in the morning for some yard work. After I turned that valve back on in the evening, the water meter went crazy. The sprinkler system suched 500 cu ft water and still go like crazy.

My sprinkler system cover about 2 acres but all the valves are supposed to be off. I checked around and could not find any leak. Where did the water go? I had to shut it off again.

It is like that every time we shut off the valve and then turned that back on. Not sure if this time is worse.

please let me know what the problem is and what I should do. Thanks.
