I need recommendations for really good irrigation specialists in Jacksonville, Florida. My Mom's home was built in 1980 and the irrigation system runs off a well and pump. There are all kinds of issues: low pressure, maybe the well is drying up or not deep enough, pump may be too small, or something else altogether. I am also contemplating having the irrigation system hooked up to the city water supply as a possible solution to all these problems. I can change sprinkler heads, but these problems...

Thanks to both of you for the help. I like the idea of a hand trash pump. As a young lady, I do not already have one. Can I get one at Home Depot or Lowes? Are they very expensive? Below are pictures of my valve box. My irrigation system was installed about ten years ago. The system is actually working fine right now, including the valves, but after learning how to replace sprinkler heads, relocate sprinkler heads, etc., I got inspired to make sure <i>everything</i> is good with my system. As you can see the inside of my valve box is a mess. What should I do? Should I leave well-enough alone until something fails? Or should I try to fix this mess? The whole box, including ...
I used twisting along with one of those flat rubber jar openers (jar lid grips) that are give-aways at fairs and such. With a little bit of muscle and turn/twist of the fitting with every push, I get them on really well. (And I'm a girl.) Carol
So then why would ALL of the wiper seals go bad?
Oh, and one more thing. My house was built in 1996 so these are about 11 years old. Does that still fit the timing of an "original" 570? Thanks! Carol
Interesting. But all the risers *DO* pop up, no problem at all. The leaks are between the caps and the bodies. I have a hose adapter and have tested every one of these on the driveway: make sure it is throroughly clean - filter and spray head, make sure it is assembled correctly, make sure the wiper seal is seated correctly, put on the cap, make sure it is not misthreaded, make sure cap is tight, and attach the sprinkler to the hose (via adapter). I have about ten Toro 570s and the wiper seals have gone bad on every single one. And, it seems you can't buy just new seals - you have to buy whole bodies. I guess they are not that expensive, only $2.37 each, but it seems wasteful when all I needed were new wiper seals. It is frustrating that every single one went bad. Anyone else have bad experience with Toro 570 wiper seals?

Yes, the 1/2" line is a lateral. I suspect it comes from a 3/4" main line but I haven't dug far enough back yet to see. (Got home too late last night to dig in the dark!) I am not adding a head, I am moving an existing head out farther. I'll post an update after I dig tonight.
It is a rotor and the arc will be set for a little more then 1/4 circle (but not quite 1/2). The rotor is Rainbird 42SA. The nozzle is the standard, default nozzle that comes with a new head.
I need to move a sprinkler head from about 2 feet from the pipe to about 7 feet from the pipe. Can I run 7' funny pipe from the pipe to the sprinkler head?
People say that you can use either poly pipe or PVC with poly having more benefits. Then I also frequently read *not* to run funny pipe more than 2-3'. Isn't funny pipe made of poly? How is it that you can run poly pipe long distances but not funny pipe? I can only conclude that they are not the same - they must either be different diameters or different material or both? I need to move a sprinkler head so that it will end up about seven (7) feet from the existing PVC line. The existing PVC line is 1/2" pipe. The sprinkler head was connected to the line using flexible PVC connected on one end using a funny pipe 3/4" elbow with the other end connected to the 1/2" PVC pipe using a funny pipe barbed straight fitting into the flexible PVC and 1/2" threads into the 1/2" pipe.
