PVC pipe protruding from ground after installation

The protruding PVC pipes were location markers that the installation crew forgot to remove when finished.

Coverage uniformity?

You are correct, I should have said application rate, not coverage. In one zone I placed six identical, numbered tuna cans evenly spaced within that 14' X 30' rectangular shaped area. I ran the the sprinkler for 30 minutes. I used a digital counting scale to measure the amount of water in each can and converted that to inches. The hourly result for each can was: 1.42" .92".76" 1.44"2.36"2.22"The cans were placed in the area so that 1 & 2 and 5 & 6 were at the ends, and 3 & 4 were in the middle.

Coverage uniformity?

How much variation should there in coverage for a given zone? I had a new system installed for which I have accurately measured the coverage in each zone. In a few zones there is a difference of from over 2"/hr to less than 1/2"/hr (in a single zone, not between zones). Is this acceptable? To me it's not.

PVC pipe protruding from ground after installation

Quoted from "Fireguy97" Is it the end of the pipe, or a mid-pipe exposure? I would never leave a piece of exposed PVC in the middle of a completed job. What are you calling risers? Is it a 1/2" or 3/4" nipple, a pop-up spray head, or a 1/4" micro-spray semi-hard line? Normally the risers should be close to plumb. PVC nipples can bend a little in the heat, but you should be able to get them pretty close if they were installed with a swing joint. 1/4" risers will never be plumb without a stake. S...

PVC pipe protruding from ground after installation

Quoted from "Wet_Boots" Just ask the installer. Don't freight yourself with any assumptions. The thing is that I'm not going to accept it in the middle of the yard anyway. But I would rather be prepared with an intelligent request before I ask him to move it. Thanks.

PVC pipe protruding from ground after installation

Maybe this is the wrong forum, but - my contractor just finished my installation. In two places there are ~1" PVC pipes protruding ~2-3" from the ground. One is right in the middle of my front yard. I can't believe that should be there, because it will be hit by a mower in no time. What is it and should it be in the middle of my front yard? There's also one in the corner of my backyard. I wanted to know something about it before I ask the installer. Also, there are several risers in the flower b...

Wide Variations Between Four Contractors' Designs

All the designers are licensed irrigators, and I felt comfortable that all were competent. All except one who had no file at the BBB had A or better ratings at the BBB. All have been in business 10 years or longer. The bids are so close that price is not factor. Two designs were all spray heads and two were a combination of spray and rotators, the latter making more sense to me becasuse of the irregular shape of my backyard because of a curve shaped pool deck. The front yard is rectangular. One ...

Wide Variations Between Four Contractors' Designs

I have received proposals from four reputable sprinkler system contractors in the DFW area. They vary widely in number of zones (6 - 12), and types and numbers of heads (spray 50 - 88, Hunter MP 0 - 88 ). How can I determine which plan is "right?" I'm considering trying the Rainbird design service.
