to much resistance in zone 2

We are having some issues with our sprinkler system and we aren't sure which way to go. Some of our zones shut down early and others only stay on for two minutes. We have traced the problem to wiring in zone 2. When we test the continuity with a multimeter all of our zones check out fine, but zone 2. It has a much higher resistance reading. I know that this means that the wiring has an issue. Is this where I start to dig up my yard? And is it possible that this is causing the other zones to not ...

ground wire giving me trouble, possibly the timer too.

Okay, so my husband and I bought a house in December of 2011. This is our first place with a sprinkler system. At the beginning of the season everything functioned properly. Not so much anymore. The first issue we had was that one of our seven zones wouldn't turn on. After messing with it for a day and a half we discovered that it wasn't the only one. We found that the ground wire between zones 2 & 3 wasn't grounding properly. So to test that theory my husband put a jumper wire in and that zones...
