Problem with a Febco 825Y, help needed

Our house has a 3/4" Febco 825Y installed for our front sprinklers. Recently it started to dump water in spurts from the bottom white drain outlet. This only happens when the water inside the house is used and then turned off. Not a plumber or sprinkler installer but mechanically inclined so any advice to fix this problem would be appreciated.

I don't think that you have a problem with your Febco 825Y, I think that you have a pressure/surge problem with your water. You might want to add a soft seated check valve just before your RP. It sounds like you are getting big pressure fluctuations, causing the RP to vent slightly.

Give this a try - use the testcocks atop the device to bleed off any air in the 825Y

What you describe can sometimes happen after air is inroduced into the valve, after some plumbing work, for instance. Getting rid of trapped air will greatly stabilize the behavior of these devices.

These devices will still vent water on occasion, especially when a high-flow sprinkler zone shuts off. As long as it doesn't get into an oscillation, you will be okay.
