range matching question
I have a 5 circuit system now with some popup impulse type heads. These popups are in a large, black plastic vaselike case. They have a flat plastic cover. The sprinker head is an impulse type thing.
These things fill up with trash and dirt frequently. The only way to fix is to dig 'em out, cut the feeder line, and take 'em to my shop and clean 'em up.
I want to go to gear driven popup (like a Hunter?). What I need to know is how to select one which will match the range of the impulse units I now have.
What is the model of impulse / impact head that you currently have?

I have no idea. Next time I dig one up I can see if they have any markings.
I can tell you it's probably the longest throw one that Lowes sells.
If it is Rain-Bird, I would bet it is either a Maxi-Paw or a Mini-Paw (not a whole lot of difference in the two). If this is the case, Hunter makes a conversion for this very head, It is a UPG (if it is still available). As I said before in a few of the other threads, I prefer Rain-Bird rotors over the Hunter. The actual one I would recommend for you is a 5004-PC. It carries a 5 year warranty as opposed the Hunters' 3 year. If you still choose to go with Hunter PGP rotors (or the UPG) you will have still made a sound choice. Both are comparable in performance and in reliability. It is usually just a matter of preference (the ole Ford vs Chevy). Best of luck!

Ok, so I lied. It's called a PGP-ATR. Here is a link for your info.
