Replacing old control valves

I have an older system in my front yard now. The solenoids are cracked and do not work. The manufacturer is out of business and I am unable to find a replacement. The valves are 1 1/4" with hard piped lines. My question is; should I replace the valves with a 1 1/2" valve or a 1" valve? Will either of these soultions work? I am also planning to add two more zone to my system, approx 12 heads. Any advice offered would be appreciated.
