Install Valve Box
Two days of digging and I have exposed 3 valves. Yes! When I install the (NEW) plastic valve cover box does it need to rest on a bed of crushed rock (for drainage?) or just let it sit on the dirt..? Thanks. PLR
At www.irrigationtutorials.com , I believe it discusses that the rock serves two purposes.
1. Keep moles out of the box
2. Provide a foundation to prevent the box from sinking over time.
Absolutely ! It promotes good drainage, isolated your manifold from dirt which can be a mess whebn servicing. We also lay a layer of black bed liner, then lay in 2 " of 3/4 stone. This will prevent any weeds from growing through also.
Do not use anything smaller than a 3/4" stone. ANy smaller can get in your lines easy when servicing.
good tip on 3/4 inch stone.
Thanks,
Pete
