Connecting fittings to poly
I have a question, I was told to use a hair dryer to soften the poly when putting fittings on as this helps mold the pieces together to cut down on leaks. Here's my question, can I apply heat carefully to the poly with my propane torch? Please any advice?
General rule is no!
But most contractors do- You need to just float the pipe about 2" away from the flame for about 3 seconds and thats it, just enough to provide a little warmth to the pipe. If you notice it turning glossy and melty, cut the tip and start over.
You can also lube with dish soap or KY jelly- this wont harm the plastics
