Installing new Rain Bird ESPME controller

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the sprinkler system world - just bought a 50 year old house with a 20 year old sprinkler system though so I'm learning quick! The system is currently run off of an old ESP 16-LX PLUS and it is going a little haywire. It runs every station perfectly in the test cycles but tends to turn on multiple stations at once when a program is ran, and a voltage test indicates that it is "leaking" even when turned off (and the valves are doing crazy things even when the unit is off as a result).

On the recommendation of a sprinkler specialist, I ordered an ESP4MEI controller with two additional 6-station controllers to get back to my original 16 stations. Installation is pretty straightforward so far but I have run into a couple of puzzles: on the old ESP 16-LX+ unit, there are two COM ports, and there is no wire going to the main valve (MV). The ESP4MEI only has one COM port.

A pic of the old unit showing the wiring - COM and MV ports on bottom left:

How do I wire the new unit so that it works? Those three ports look to be the only ones that don't quite match up to the new controller.

Thanks very much for the help!

No worries. Just hook both wires up to the one common terminal. You'll be good to go. Just ignore the MV because you don't have a master valve.
