Sprinkler adjusters

We have impact sprinklers on our property. My husband wanted them to shoot as far out as possible, so he removed the diffuser or adjuster that you screw in or out to adjust the spray. I think it was a mistake. Now, he can’t find them. Should they have been removed, and I can’t seem to find any to buy.

The adjustment screw is different on different model sprinklers. But you still might have a problem finding one to buy even with knowing the model of sprinkler.
I've put just a regular screw with the same threads in there in a pinch.
