How to check pressure

****o all,

My system has very little water coming out of the heads(about 2 feet)on zone 1, zone 2 & 3 doesn't spray at all and 4 & 5 have same pressure as zone 1. Last year my system had awesome pressure. I am thinking either my water supply coming from the well is very low, I have a leak somewhere in the system, or some roots are collapsing the pipe somewhere. I am using a well. How is the best way to start troubleshooting this. My control box is wired correctly and seems to be in order. Should I cut my PVC coming out of the pump and attach a pressure guage to start? What is an average pressure I should look for. Should I start digging from the pump around the whole yard and look for a leak?? Another problem I have is I only know where 2 of my zone valves are located. Haven't been able to find the other 3 yet after much searching[:(!][: (!] Like I said the last 6 years I've owned the house the system has performed great. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

I am to assume since you stated you have a "control box", that your well contains a submersible pump. If this is correct, then I will assume you have some major problems. Since subs are usually set deep in the water they very rarely quit pumping water (from droughts, drawdowns & etc) unless there is a pump failure, But this also does not mean that they won't. Take a look at the equipment near your controller for your irrigation. Look to see the products that are there, and take note of model numbers and brand names. This will give me a better idea of what you have and what will be some of the most productive steps to take to rectify the problem.

Hi Josh,

I'm the guy that came in your shop Saturday and bought the new controller from you. Mine was burned up. The controller install was as easy as you told me it would be. My pump is mounted on top of the ground. Everything is rainbird. I did find one very small pinhole leak on the pvc coming out of the outlet side of my lawn pump that runs in the ground and connects to the sprinkler lines but it is a very small almost unrecognizable leak.

Thanks,
