will side outlet on popup source water if bottom inlet is connected to the water source?

I have a backyard strip and my landscaper installed popup spray nozzles. As the shrubs have grown their branches block the spray from reaching all of the strip. What I'd like to do is add some bubblers near the areas that need more water. The popups have both a bottom inlet and a side inlet, and are connected to the piping at the bottom.

I was wondering whether I could connect a bubbler to the side inlet of the popup and get water to it that way? It would be easier than digging down to get to the pipe itself.

Give it a try. Worst that can happen is it doesn't work.
