2 common wires

I'm replacing an old imperial controller that isn't keeping time accurately anymore. I purchased an orbit 6 zone controller, but ran into confusion before I removed the wiring from the Imperial. It has 2 wires attached to the Common terminal. 1 white wire is part of the group that includes the colored wires from each zone. The 2nd wire is a single larger gage wire. I don't know what it is connected to. Any ideas? Should I just connect both wires to the Common terminal of the new controller? Thanks

That will work. The old Imperial controller utilized a separate common wire for zones on the shrub schedule.
