Insert barb tips

Any tips on fully inserting 3/4" barbed fittings? Can a lubricant be used to make them slip on easier? The old twist-n-push method is fine when doing new work, but I have a crack in one line and know it will be a struggle to get a straight dual-barbed fitting into place.

Depending on the depth, you either dig up enough pipe to have similar freedom of movement to new work, or else you end up looking for an expanding insert coupling, or two separate pieces you can thread into each other, like an insert x female adapter and an insert x male adapter.

A flaring tool works good:

You can also use a hair dryer to soften up the poly pipe.
