DCA and Shutoff Valve

Can a DCA backflow device be used as a main shutoff to the irrigation system, or should a separate ball shutoff valve be installed? If a separate ball shutoff valve is recommended, should it be placed before or after the DCA?

Thank you

Place the separate shutoff valve before the backflow preventor. You want the ability to change out the BP if necessary.
