vertical valvues

Can valves be installed vertically?

I need to install valves, a control box, and pump switch on my irrigation system. The irrigation system has a 2 hp pump that pumps water from a lake. The 1.5 inch pipes going to the three zone come vertical up out of a concrete patio, to about a height of maybe three feet off the ground. There are currently hand valves to open and close depending on which zone I want to water. It would be easy to cut out the hand valves and replace with automated valves, that is if there is no problem with a valve being installed vertically a couple feet of the ground, instead of horizontal below ground. Any help or recommendations would be appreciated. thanks.

Probably not a problem. Give it a try.
