water not shutting off

Not really quite sure what the problem is...My sprinkler system is on a timer and just this morning they would not turn off. I shut the timer to the off position and it was still running and then I unplugged the timer unit the water was still running... Finally I went to the front of the house and shut off the main valve and the water finally turned off...I have no clue about sprinkler system and am hoping someone might be able to shed some light.

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

Chances are you have a diaphragm problem. Do you know where your electric valves are located? If you can find the valves you can probably just swap the diaphragm out and it should do the trick. It might be best for you to buy / purchase the whole valve and just replace the solenoid, diaphragm, and bonnet assembly all at once. It might be cheaper than purchasing the parts separately.

Best of luck!
