Backflow for drawing from river?

I will be drawing out of the river. No backflow device would be needed, correct?

If I am wrong, what is the reason for the backflow device?

Only if you tried to tie in city water, would you need the RPZ in the city water line feeding the system.

Wet Boots is right, but I would run Purple pipe from the river so not to get confused with the main line, so if you do a repair you wont get it mixed up with the dom line.
