PGP or PGJ for small yard in NJ with partially clay soil

Hi everyone,

I live in Northern New Jersey and have an irrigation system with Hunter PGP rotors. I was thinking of changing all the heads to PGJ because I see some puddling in the back yard. Will the PGJ's make a difference? Currently I am watering every other day for 20 minutes per zone.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

PGP VS PGJ

I wouldn't go to the trouble of changing heads. If there is excess puddling around the head itself then the seal might be bad. As far as switching heads I'd say it would be much easier to switch nozzels. Use one that puts out less water. You could also water twice for 10 minutes to give it a chance to soak in. Idealy but much more costly you could start over and rototill in amendments such as compost. This will help the water soak in. For now I'd just use a smaller nozzel and water twice. Water 10 minutes, give it an hour or whatever time you determine is enough and water another 10 minutes. Good luck.
If I can't fix it, it's broken!
