K-rain 4004 changing zones on its own

I have a customer that has a 4004 valve connect to a centrifugal style well pump. When the system is set to zone 1 it will run for 2-3 minutes then change to zone 2. It does this all while the pump is running. I assumed a loss of pressure was happening. I capped off 4" popup heads and ran the system. It stayed on zone 1, and I also found a leak. Repairs were made and the capped heads re installed. Ran the system and it ran as it should. A few days later customer states that the auto switching to other zones is back.

The pump does surge a little, so I'm thinking I have another leak, or the well is running dry. ( we are in FL)

An suggestions on steps to take next would be great.

Concentrate on the pump. If it fails to output steadily, the valve will index to the nest zone. Check for a suction leak. Can you throttle down the flow from the pump?
