Cant get a Nelson Smartzone to program

I just moved into a new house with a Nelson smartzone 8500. I'm trying to program it .... but for some reason, the only thing that works is the manual setting. It wont let me set the time or date or anything. Even after pushing the reset button and completely powering it down and starting back up. Any idea whats wrong?

I'm not familiar with Nelson controllers. But sometimes if you unplug a controller and remove any backup power source
from a battery and let the controller sit for 24 hours it will sometimes reset itself and start to function correctly.
