Gravity drain type heads

I just read a thread that discussed the use of gravity type drains with certain types of heads. I didn't realize that some heads retain water and some do not. Since I live in a location that is subject to freezing, and I wanted to use line drains, would the following types of heads be OK?

Hunter PGB-ADJ

Hunter Institutional with check valve.... Perhaps the check valve is what retains the water(?)

Thank you!

All check-valve heads retain water.

Thanks for reply.

Are there some heads that are less likely to retain water than others?

Does that mean that if your property is somewhat slanted, you might be better off to avoid the line drains and also use heads that have check valves to keep the water in the system? Perhaps that would reduce hammering?
