replacing heads

Hi, never replaced a head before. I was told you turn the system on and then grab the head when it pops up and turn the sytem off and dont' let it retreat and then simply unscrew the old and screw the new on. Is this accurate. We have Hunter PGP heads

If you want to replace the sprinklers internal assembly you will need to dig and remove the dirt around the top of the sprinkler head so that you can unscrew the internal assembly and remove it from the sprinkler body. Changing the sprinkler nozzle is much simpler.

These links should help.

The above post by "wor.." is right...Most installers of sprinklers make it out to be more then it is...Money maker....I have installer paying 60 to $80 to replace simple PGP ($5) heads...BONG
