Main line to control valve and sprinklers

Can anyone tell me if it is better to run the same size main line all the way to the sprinkler heads? My main line is 1" and I am wondering if I run 1"1/4 line to the control valves and continue it out to my sprinkler heads would it be better than using a 1" pipe :S throughout the whole system?

consult a friction loss table for your proposed pipng and run the numbers
