Do I even need a PVB valve?

Hi everyone, I live in Las vegas and I bought my house a couple years ago. I just recently noticed theres a pvb in the backyard. Well its a three piece unit. One of the valves leaking. I cant seem to get it off with wrenches. I was thinking of just removing the whole unit and capping off both lines. Im not using the line for sprinklers so do i even need the pvb?

If the PVB is connected to the the irrigation only and you are never going to use it again you could cut the pipe down on both sides and cap the connection on both sides, You may have to contact your city if they have a record of the PVB. They may require an annual test. If they do you may want to let them know that you don't have it anymore. If you strip the pipe off of the PVB and clean it from any non brass items you can usually get some cash at the scrap yard for old PVB's
