no control

i just bought a house with a sprinkler system installed. the controller was blank and wouldn't reset so I replaced it with similar rainbird controller. when I started the system, most of the sprinklers came on no matter what zone was being watered. any advice would be appreciated.

sounds like you installed a wire into the master valve/ pump port

Or you have a master valve with several valves stuck on / manually turned on
