Changing out old Toro Controller

I presently have an old Toro EL-6+ Controller. It no longer functions properly in automatic mode (the day and hour dials no longer turn). It functions fine manually and all 6 stations work when I use it manually.
Ineed to replace it since I am going on vacation. Can I just purchase a current Toro controller and transfer the wires from the old unit to the new one? Will this work if I program the new Toro controller after I transfer the wiring?
Thanks,
Glenn

Any good modern 6-zone controller will suffice. Do yourself a gigantic favor, and mark each wire, before you start in removing them from the old controller.

replacing controller

I would recommend going with rain bird or hunter controllers as they will give you more programing options.
