For those of you who are cirtified testers and or Specialists like myself you may find the following disturbing. In all reality you may know exactly what im writing about. I have tested many units and many pass and sometimes they fail. It's all a part of the process. When they fail I either try to repair or replace, given many varables. How old, condtion, replaceable parts, etc... Over the past few months I have failed about three devices which when I open up to repair I discover the wrong parts installed. For example: I failed a Wilkins 975 for a leaky #1 check. When I opened it up I discovered that the discs were orange. We all know that the orange discs are from the Wilkins 975XL which has replaceable seats. The discs are made of a silicon rubber and are softer then those which are sposed to be used in the 975. Looking at the seats(which are not replacable in this device becuase its a 975) I noticed they were pitted really bad. Now my question is did the tester/repairman before me not know which discs to install or did they install a softer disc to make the device pass? To make my point stronger this is not the first time I've seen this. I guess the moral of the story is, if you are going to repair a device, do your job, and repair or replace it the right way. Dont be lazy. I think I speak for most of us when I say that we really do care about safe drinking water.
