Nelson Ez pro timer troubleshooting

About a month and a half ago I noticed my sprinklers were not running. I got out my volt meter and started checking voltages, I discovered that there wasnt 24 volts coming out of timer going to pump start relay. I moved the red wire over to a open zone and opened manuel valve at the pump and turned on timer. It worked. I purchaced a new timer and the system was up and running again. Today I noticed the sprinklers were not running again, same thing timer wasnt suppling power to pump start relay. Can the pump start relay be buring out the timer circuit or is there something else wrong.

Pump relays are not necessarily compatible with modern sprinkler controllers, as they can draw more power than a valve solenoid. A modern pump start relay might be installed, or an "isolation relay" can go between the controller and existing pump start relay.
