Sprinkler heads installation

Is there a technique on heads installation to make sure they are flush with lawn and not sticking out too much or too deep?

Compacting the soil thoroughly as you're back filling. Holding the head in place to make sure it doesn't displace. Keep the head 1-2" away from the edge of your grass so the weed eater or edger doesn't get it. Cut a ring out from the grass where the sprinkler head is.
