Well Drop Pipe

I am in the process of installing an irrigation system. I am trying to find out how deep does the drop pipe with the foot valve need to be? Well is 2 inch and water level is 18 ft below surface. Does length matter? Well is 40 ft deep.

Thanks

Unless that well delivers mucho water, a drop pipe will drop the level to a point (about 20 feet) where the pump will stop lifting the water.

You need to test the well for capacity before you proceed further, unless you want to go straight to the surest configuration at the highest installed cost.
