RainBird raster test result flashes "Short MV" & "Open 12"

RainBird raster test result flashes "Short MV" & "Open 12", only see valve wiring on control board up to 11, nothing in slot 12. Q1: is that because MV wire counts as 1, and #11 is 12, or what does it mean; and Q2, where would you begin troubleshooting

Bought house at 10 yrs old, believe sprinkler system was installed shortly after house was built, if that matters re age of system

Electrical testing of the zone wiring is an obvious first step. If the master valve solenoid is shorted, then replace it.

looking at a manual shows the controller to have a separate master valve connection.
I don't understand " is that because MV wire counts as 1, and #11 is 12,"
