T style filters

Hi everyone,

Just read the blog about filters and got me thinking.

I have city water. It comes from city wells. Every few months we get a rush of dark brown water from the city. I'm not sure what it is, could be iron. I have a whole house pre filter and the white filter element turns black after a couple of weeks!!

Sooo, Should I install one of those Vu flow units?

If so, I'm guessing 100 micron mesh. Installed after the PVB above ground.

Will it affect my psi and gpm which is naturally low?

I always get so proud when someone reads something I wrote. :D
They have a very rough psi loss chart.
For a 1" filter highest flow they show on the chart is 40gpm.
Lose 9psi at 40gpm, 5 psi at 30gpm, 2psi at 20gpm.

So at 8 GPM I may not lose any psi.

Is this a "can't hurt" situation in my case?

Yes the blog is a must read.

8 gpm is less that 1psi loss.
Figuring all this on a 1" line.
Bigger lines take a minimum of 10gpm to work.

Not knowing other details I'd go with it.
