I had the same problem with long narrow strips and tried several
attempts to correct this problem.
I tried using the sst(side-strip) nozzles(rain-bird), but found
that they did not even shoot out in front of the nozzle 2ft, much
less the desired 4-5ft in front that I needed. They did shoot side
to side in a strip spray, but if your heads are on the outer edge
of the strip of turf your trying to water, than these strip nozzles
are not very effective.
After much resolve, I found the the 2.5 inch ranibird body, with a (u-series) nozzle to do the trick. The arc is reduced due to the low
pop-up, and the u-series nozzle give you a double spray pattern, with
one of the spray patterns close in to the head so that you dont have to worry about adjusting arc from head to head,,only side to side.
