How to detect a broken wire?

I have Hunter sprinkler system. Zone 7 voltage at the coil checks 11 volts instead of 24volts. It checks 24 at the controller. My guess I have a bad connection somewhere under ground. Is there a way to check and find the bad spot?

First you check all the visible field wire connections, looking in valve boxes. A faulty connection isn't all that easy to locate like one would a broken wire, since there is continuity for a locating signal to travel from controller to valve.
