Wiring repair

Our 18-10 ten conductor sprinkler wiring got cut but most likely ripped apart by an electronic dog fence installer this winter. Since the cable was probably stressed pretty good by the dog wire installer, what proceedure is OK for the long term repair?
1.Replace say 3 to 6 feet of the buried cable at the cut/rip by splicing in a replacement section? This would end up with 20 splices buried underground.
2.Run 75 feet of new cable from the first valve box with the splice at the garage which would end up with 10 splices buried underground just outside of the garage? The other end would be connected to the 1st box valves and the cable that continues on to the second valve box.
3. Splice the cuts/rips where they are which ends up with 10 splices buried underground.
4. Other suggestions for good long term fix?

Secondly is there an economical transmitter and receiver readily available that will allow me to trace the wire to the broken spot? The present cut/rip location is not exactly known and can be anywhere in a 30 foot line. Rather than digging up to 30 feet, the sensor would be a great time and backsaver.

You help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You might be able to rent a Wire Locator from an irrigation supply house or an electrical supply house.

hey aquamatic, do you post on lawnsite too?

back to the question.....

I'd splice in a cable at both ends and place both splice sections in a round valve box in case of future problems
