if you don't know what zone valves you have in your sprinkler system, then you don't know whether you can successfully use a cheapo controller as a replacement.

i sat and watched the wheel turn and turn and i was able to find out that zone stations do turn automatically. the problem is that when i schedule stations 1 thru station 3 for 10 minutes each, it takes 3 hours to pass station 1. i just moved into this place so i dont know how it was set up prior to me. maybe the wires are wired wrong or purposely? the station dial seem to turn like a regular 12 hr clock regardless how much time i set the stations to.



i dont mind replacing the timer, homedepot has them for under $40. but I can i just simply switch out the timer and keep everything (the sprinkler system) the same or do I need to switch out other parts as well?

The Imperial Valet is probably the grandest of the old "Built like a battleship" controllers. That being said, once it stops working, it will probably cost more to put back into service than it will cost to replace it with an entry-level solid-state controller.

If it no longer starts automatically, it may also not be keeping the correct time of day. That points at the need for a new motor (one of three motors used in the controller) and those are expensive motors by now. Imperial is gone, and no one is stocking repair parts for them at the moment.

Only if your zone valves are Imperial brass valves, do you need the power output of the Imperial Valet (over twice what standard solid-state controllers can supply)

the zone dial on my timer doesn't turn automatically. I set the timer function to automatic and the zone dial to off. the sprinkler heads do come on but it doesn't turn to the other zones. I use 3 zones and the sprinkler heads do work when i turn it manually. any suggestions?
