Check the threads of the new coupling. Are they hose threads or pipe threads?
They aren't really compatible so it will most likely leak if you're screwing hose threads onto pipe threads. And visa versa.

Going from 3/4-inch PVC pipe threads to 1/2-inch poly

Have been using Rainbird couplings to go from 3/4-inch PVC to 1/2-inch poly; however, I am finding that the new couplings all leak at the threaded end. I have used tape on the PVC threads but that does not solve the problem.
Any suggestions on alternative method to make this transition?
