Partially torn out system

I bought a house last spring.
There is a new garage with a driveway along the side of the house.
When the driveway was put in, the sprinkler system was removed.
I've been exploring the crawl space and found the pipe from the main to the side of the house where the timer, etc must have been located. It's where the driveway is now.
There are lots of heads in the yard and a drip system for the roses. So far we've been watering them by hand.
My question:
Would it be better to try and recover the existing system or start over?
Thanks!
