Our low pressure problem

Can someone please give us some advice? I am writing this for my husband who is outside digging up the back lawn and probably swearing. We have two parts to our watering system. The first part works fine. It involves just two sprinkler heads that water two small flower beds. No problem there. Then when that cycle is done the next cycle starts up. Five pop-up sprinkler heads appear and attempt to water the grass. Only these sprinkler heads don't spray like they used to--in large overlapping circles or fan shape. Now they spray just a small area. Of course large patches of the grass is dying out. What is happening? We shut off our system last November and started it up last month. It has not worked properly since we started it up. What should we do? Continue to digd up the lawn to get to the pipes and look for a leak? The system is only about 6 years old. Thanks for your help.

Something probably froze over the winter. I would check where the heads are, because if there is no water bubbling up in the lawn that is probably where the problem is. Also let the zone run for a while to see if a leak can be detected
