extra wires from the controller

My irrigation controller seems to have extra wires. This one has the common wire, 4 zone wires in one bundle, and 2 wires that are in another bundle. I have 5 valves in a manifold and the center valve is slightly larger than the other 4 valves. I think the slightly larger valve might be a master valve. That slightly larger valve that I think is a master valve has one of the solenoid wires connected to the 2 wires that are from the 2-wire bundle. The other 4 valves have their solenoids wired to there own color from the 4-wire bundle. All 5 valves share the common. Is the 2-wire bundle an added zone or is it just for a master valve?
