no pressure

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what is going on with my sprinkling system. I did not put it in, therefore I don't know the anatomy of it. I am going to have to dig around a bit I guess to figure out how they layed this in.
I can tell you things I have noticed.

1. I had turned on my water in the house one evening and big air pockets where shooting through my regular water line throughout the house at all faucets. That went away.
2. The following day, I went to turn on the sprinkler using the manual button (the red light was on and it makes a noise like it always does) but when I looked out, the sprinklers were not going on.
3. So I turned it to each zone (there are 5 set up)and walked over to the heads to see what was happening.
4. In one zone, i could see the water dribbling out of the head, but not really strong.
5. I don't really know where to start looking, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

If I came to your house this is the way I would troubleshoot it:

-Start at the main valve for the sprinklers, in my area this is usually at the front of the house. Bell shaped anti-siphon valve
Make sure it is all the way on.

-Then go to the other valves, water meter, and any other valve, check to see if they are on all the way as well.

-If all of these are on all the way then I would find the zone control valves and turn them on manually with their respective bleed screws. Any experienced irrigation specialist can tell a lot about the system with the bleed screws on! If the valves come on okay this way, I would take one more important step:

-Do you have a master valve? This is an automatic electric remote control valve that controls the mainline to the sprinklers. It is usually at the beginning of the system near the PVB. (anti siphon valve). When the timer tells zone 1 to come on, the master valve also comes on to supply water to the zone 1 remote control valve. If the master valve is faulty, the system will not work.

-Do you not have a master valve? Check all 5 zones. Do they all dribble? Or just one of them? If they all just dribble, chances are there is a problem with the supply valve because the odds are not very good that all 5 valves would go bad at the same time. If it is just one valve or even 2, it could be the diapragm in the valve.

After you check this stuff, post again! We need the answers to these questions first!
