That's what I get for assuming. If these are the inline version then definetly get rid of them. The seat on those valves likes to crack. It's a high percentage of the inlines that I've uninstalled which had cracks.
Right, you need 5 inches between the valves for the adapters to fit.
Thanks for the help. No arguing that it's a piece of junk. May just have to replace it. According to the measurements on the web site it won't fit in the valve box.
Hi I can identify that piece of junk for you. It's a Rainbird APAS-100. I notice the yellow/brown plastic ring is missing. Look inside the valve. It's probably in there. You'll need to get that out before attempting to repair it. The guy is right. You need new valves or you can replace the part in your picture with the valve in the link below. Trust me it works. I discovered this about 15 years ago and never had a problem. I only do this from time to time to save the home owner money if the repair is difficult to get to or galvanized or whatever.
You'll need the 1".

Idenify Rainbird Valve and Suggestion on how to fix.
Was wondering what type of valve this is and where/if I can find
replacement. It won't close all the way. I have taken it apart and
cleaned it up and still doesn't close all the way. No luck find any
replacement parts at Home Depot or a local distributor. The local guy
said replace all the valves, and was hoping avoid this if possible.
