Rainbird 5000 Plus Rotor Review

I am writing up a report on the new Rainbird 5000 PLUS Rotor. This rotor is fairly new, and comes with the new feature of the Flow Shut-Off Device. This is a cone valve inside the rotor, allowing you to turn the water off at the sprinkler while the other sprinklers on the zone are running. This Flow Shut off Device is part of the new Stream Control Technology (SCT) in the Rainbird 5000 PLUS rotor.
The Rain Curtain nozzles for the 5000 PLUS are very precise in watering where you want it to. Unlike conventional rotors that broadcast water in an almost straight out stream, the Rain Curtain nozzles waters the area evenly, not just at the end of the path.

The 5000 PLUS rotor is available with a stainless steel riser, or plastic.

From my point of view, these rotors are the best coverage rotors I have seen. The cone valve reduces friction loss, an important factor where there is low pressure. The valve also allows you to shut the sprinkler off to make adjustments, change nozzles, ext.

I will be installing the 5000 PLUS rotor this upcoming season instead of the R-50. In my opinion, this is the best rotor Rainbird has to offer at the time.

I am also impressed by the performance of these rotors. The conventional 5000 rotor sometimes stuck at the end of the arc, and so far, the 5000 PLUS has not at all. I am also very impressed on Rainbird's nozzle design for this rotor, it has very even coverage. The nozzles included with the rotor are RainCurtain nozzles, and Low Angle nozzles.

I am looking forward to installing these rotor for the 2003 season, and many more to come. This rotor is very heavy duty, and in my opinion, could be used in some commercial applications.
